Notable personal detailsWesley Parish Hunt is a Republican U.S. Representative for Texas’s 38th congressional district, serving since January 3, 2023. A U.S. Army veteran, he served as an AH-64 Apache helicopter pilot with a combat deployment to Iraq and additional deployments to Saudi Arabia, leaving the Army as a captain. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point and later earned graduate degrees at Cornell University. He is married to Emily Hunt and they have three children.
Supports tax cuts and limited government spending; backed major Republican tax-cut legislation and opposes large Democratic budget proposals that he says would raise taxes. Emphasizes pro-growth, pro-worker tax policies and reducing what he describes as wasteful federal spending.
Supports full repeal of the Affordable Care Act and has opposed extending enhanced ACA premium tax credits; has voted against procedural measures to allow House consideration of extensions. Public statements and past questionnaires indicate a preference for repealing Obamacare rather than expanding or preserving ACA-era subsidies.
Supports strong enforcement and border-security measures, including measures to prevent migrants who enter during declared ‘‘invasions’’ from receiving immigration relief, ending certain Temporary Protected Status designations, and cutting or restricting humanitarian immigration programs. Advocates for expanded removals and supports building/strengthening physical barriers and other enforcement actions to reduce illegal crossings.
The candidate is pro-life, supports protecting the rights of the unborn, and supports the Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade. He opposes taxpayer-funded abortion and backs policies restricting abortion access.
Supports American energy independence and expanded oil and gas production, prioritizing domestic fossil fuel development and market-driven energy innovation while opposing what he describes as Green New Deal-style policies and regulatory restrictions. Expresses support for U.S. energy dominance, increased drilling and fewer federal limits on oil and gas leasing and infrastructure. Advocates private-sector innovation for future clean energy rather than large government-directed programs.
Supports broad Second Amendment protections and opposes new federal or administrative gun restrictions, seeks to repeal or block provisions that enable red flag laws and expanded background checks, and has opposed ATF rules on pistol braces while advocating armed school protection and law-enforcement-centered responses.
Wesley Hunt ran in the Texas Republican U.S. Senate primary but finished a distant third, with 13.1% of the vote, as John Cornyn and Ken Paxton advanced to a runoff. In the final days of the race, polling consistently showed Hunt in third place, trailing both Cornyn and Paxton. The contest drew heavy fundraising and spending and was headed toward a runoff because no candidate was expected to clear 50%.
