Notable personal detailsKristin Jacobson Robbins is a Republican member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, first elected in 2018 and serving since January 2019. She represents District 37A (northwest Twin Cities metro area, including Maple Grove) and has chaired the House Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Policy Committee. She previously worked in public policy and nonprofit leadership, including as executive director and co-founder of the Economic Club of Minnesota, and as legislative director for U.S. Rep. Harris Fawell. Robbins earned a B.A. in economics and political science from Bethel University and an M.A. in economics from Washington University in St. Louis.
The candidate supports major tax cuts and reduced government spending, including phased reductions in income-tax rates to 4%, elimination of state taxes on Social Security, caps on property-tax growth, and other measures to lower the tax burden on families and businesses.
Supports restricting expansion of publicly funded health coverage and prioritizing preserving Medicaid/MN Care for citizens while opposing taxpayer-funded healthcare for undocumented immigrants; emphasizes rooting out fraud in Medicaid programs and auditing the Department of Human Services. Policy focus is on fiscal restraint, fraud prevention, and limiting government-funded coverage expansion.
Supports stronger enforcement-focused immigration policies and has publicly criticized Minnesota Governor Tim Walz for prioritizing undocumented immigrants over citizens; has expressed support for federal enforcement actions and legal challenges to state policies. Positions emphasize law enforcement cooperation and holding state officials accountable rather than expanding asylum or legalization pathways.
The candidate supports strong restrictions on abortion and describes herself as a defender of life. As a state representative she sponsored or supported legislation aimed at restricting abortion and voted against legislation to enshrine broad statutory protections for abortion access.
Emphasizes lowering energy costs and opposes strict energy mandates that she says would raise costs and reduce reliability; favors increasing renewable use while prioritizing reliable and affordable power. Policies focus on cutting regulations and reducing government-driven energy mandates rather than endorsing aggressive emissions targets or large subsidized clean-energy programs.
Supports fully funding law enforcement and strengthening penalties for violent crime; has a voting record of opposing firearm safety measures such as safe-storage requirements, reporting lost/stolen firearms, and expanded penalties for straw purchases. Holds high pro-gun ratings from the NRA and has co-sponsored legislation expanding self-defense protections.
Kristin Robbins is now one of the leading candidates in Minnesota’s Republican gubernatorial primary after Scott Jensen withdrew from the race. Jensen’s exit follows Chris Madel leaving the field last month, further narrowing the GOP contest. Robbins and Phillip Parrish are now positioned at the front of the remaining primary field.
