Rep. Kevin Hern has announced he is running for Oklahoma’s U.S. Senate seat in 2026, becoming the first major Republican to formally enter the race. The opening is tied to Sen. Markwayne Mullin’s expected departure after being nominated to lead the Department of Homeland Security, which would trigger a temporary gubernatorial appointment. Hern’s decision to run would also add to House Republican turnover as he leaves his House seat to seek higher office.
