Notable personal detailsAndrew Steven Biggs is a Republican U.S. Representative for Arizona's 5th congressional district, first elected in 2016 and serving in Congress since 2017. Before Congress, he served in the Arizona House of Representatives and Arizona Senate, including as President of the Arizona Senate. He is a lawyer and earned degrees from Brigham Young University, the University of Arizona, and Arizona State University.
Andy Biggs supports major tax cuts and reducing government spending, including a pledge to eliminate Arizona’s income tax, backing federal tax-cut measures tied to the Trump administration’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” and advocating for a balanced-budget amendment while opposing international taxes or levies.
Opposes the Affordable Care Act and supports full repeal, advocating for a reduced government role and more private-sector solutions in health care. Has voted and spoken consistently for conservative reforms rather than expanding public programs.
Supports strong border enforcement including construction of a physical wall, opposes amnesty or broad regularization programs, and advocates expanded congressional oversight and enforcement actions at the southern border.
Opposes elective abortion and supports strong restrictions on abortion access; praised the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade and has sponsored legislation to limit federal support for abortion. Positions emphasize protecting life from conception and removing federal tax or funding treatment for abortion.
Opposes major federal climate regulations and supports expanding domestic energy production with reduced federal oversight; has publicly rejected that human-caused climate change is occurring and has acted to block federal climate research and international climate measures.
Andy Biggs is a staunch supporter of broad Second Amendment rights, opposes new federal gun-control measures (including expanded background checks), and has accepted endorsements from pro-gun organizations. He has criticized ATF regulatory actions and argued against assault-style weapon bans and other restrictions while promoting arming or hardening schools and supporting law-enforcement measures to address crime.
Andy Biggs has emerged as the leading Republican contender for Arizona governor in 2026 after Karrin Taylor Robson suspended and then ended her campaign, saying she wanted to avoid a divisive primary. With Robson out, the GOP field has narrowed mainly to Biggs and David Schweikert, and Biggs is described as the frontrunner with a significant fundraising lead. Both remaining candidates are now trying to win support from Robson’s former donors ahead of the mid-July 2026 primary.
