Notable personal detailsBilly Webster is a Greenville native and Democratic candidate for Governor of South Carolina in 2026. He has worked in public service, including as chief of staff to former Gov. Dick Riley during Riley’s time as governor and later at the U.S. Department of Education, and he also worked in the Clinton White House on scheduling and advance. In business, he co-founded the payday-lending company Advance America and led it in executive roles. He is married to Teresa Webster, a longtime public-school teacher, and has four children.
Supports increasing access to affordable, quality healthcare, taking on insurance companies that prioritize profit over patients, and ensuring rural communities have access to care. Emphasizes reducing costs and expanding access within South Carolina rather than proposing full privatization or single-payer.
The candidate emphasizes protecting South Carolina’s natural places and clean water, fixing infrastructure, and lowering utility and gas prices, but public materials provide only general conservation and affordability goals without specific climate or energy policy prescriptions.
