Steve Hershey has ruled out a 2026 governor run, leaving the Maryland GOP field without one possible contender. The Republican primary still includes Dan Cox, Ed Hale, and others. On the other side, Wes Moore and Aruna Miller have filed for re-election. Hershey’s exit removes a potential GOP contender and may narrow the Republican field. The filing by Moore and Miller reinforces the Democratic side, but it does not directly change the GOP nomination race.
After careful reflection, I have decided not to pursue a run for governor and will instead focus on continuing to serve in the Maryland Senate, Hershey said in a statement on X.
